Well, you are not the only one in silkpainting with teaching background - Leonard Thompson is maybe one of the best known teachers who is at the same time an excellent silk artist and silk painting teacher. I am also
a self-taught silk painter, I ...
I visited Estonia June of 2007 and loved it. I was also happy to see painting on silk as fine art (and bought some examples in Tallinn). I have thought about returning and taking a summer course at Tartu U. I enjoy your paintings about Estonia.
Are you interested in learning more about silk painting?
yes
About Me:
I love to paint on silk - it is the best therapy, when you feel a need to do something REALLY good. . . I paint my silk with love, and passion, and joy, and silk remembers those feelings ; ))
I have painted silk since 1996, so it's my 13-th year.
In the beginning it was just a wonderful hobby, but after becoming a mother (I have two daughters, older is 5, younger 2 years old) this hobby has become my second work.
I love to paint, and I love to teach silk painting and at the same time learn and discover - silk is still a mystery for me.
I love to share my silks too.
Some people who are wearing my scarves have told me that they have felt some positive energy. Firstly I took it just as a nice compliment, but because different people said this quite unusual thing in different times and places, it seems to me, that it might be more than just a coincidence - silk is a living material and I know that impossible things sometimes just happen. . .
I call my scarves Singing Scarves because quite often I sing while painting them.
In old Estonian and other Finno-Ugric tales the power of song is very strong - it is possible to influence the people and the cattle and the nature, it is possible to create new worlds with the power of song. Those folk tales carry the wisdom of centuries and Estonian people have not forgotten them - the power of song is still alive in our culture. . .and I am proud to be an Estonian.
Hi Maria,
Thanks so much for your compliments - your work is beautiful as well! Very organic and free flowing! I am so jealous of those folding frames you have - and all that space to spread out and be creative! Good luck with your online ventures!
Thank you for you comment, I have not practiced in silk painting because I always engaged in many crafts like cold porcelain and many others. I have seen your work it is very impressive and your kids are so cute.
Thank you Maria! wonderful compliments! Most of my scarves right now are 12mm silk satin (or silk charmeuse) - I try to take photos outside but not in direct sunlight - and the lovely sheen seems to come thru :) and thank you for remarking on my texts (on etsy?) -- I try to make it personal so the reader can connect with my process. Love the pix of the kids painting ..so much fun!!
Thanks so much for your comments and I an looking forward to learning more about silk painting and silk painters. I am now on my way to your web site.
Have a lovely day!
