About Me:
Was introduced to silk painting 15 years ago when I underwent a class to introduce the craft to vision impaired people which I did successfully. Upon leaving that position I continued painting but started to look for outlets through which to sell my work so that I could keep on painting. I love to use different methods and combinations to create new material/designs which I then either make into garments scarfs, wraps, bags or quilts. I love the colours and variety and the excitment that you never quite know what is going to occur. I hold classes and demonstrations and regularly exhibit my work.

Hi Carolyn! Thank you for your comment. Yes, my client was very surprised and extremely happy with this scarf. Isn't it wonderful to know that customer and also collegues like what we are creating?
To come to your question: I basically applied my knowledge in perspective drawing ... I did a lot of dry pastel work in the past. If you look at the scarf, you see that the first pads are quite big ... then they get smaller as you go "upwards" with your eyes. Take an example: Take an ordinary drinking glass BELOW eye level ... then bring it very slowly higher up until you see the circle turn into a simple LINE ... This is the base ... Without this it is impossible to have anything "floating" ... As for the water reflections: You need vertical lines in it (as opposed to the horizontal ones) and everything needs to be quite a bit darker than the your main subjects ...
When you look through a lili pond, you can hardly see through it most of the time ... The huge leaves cover the water surface and create shade ... Oh well, and then you add surrounding environmental colours to it ... trees, sky, clouds, etc. - I hope this helps a little bit. I know it is faster said than done but with a little bit of practice you'll get there. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me again. I'll be more than happy to share what I know.
I send you my very best Holiday wishes from Montreal/Canada to Australia! We are slowly getting "snowed it".

Hi Carolyn
I love your work - it is so different and unusual - I love how you have embellished your items - could you tell me what you have used to create the embellishments besides beads - what are you hanging the beads from? I especially love "Ripples of the Sea".I am interested that you taught art to visually impaired people - I have had trouble with one of my eyes though hopefully it is stable at the moment and often thought I should paint what that eye sees! This is such a wonderful site but so addictive!
